Nelson P. Clark has recently become a resident of the Manchester area. Nelson is orginally from New York where he worked construction, was a TaiChiChuan Instructor, a Licensed Massage Therapist and a Personal Trainer.

Nelson began his TaiChiChuan Practice in 1983 and received full instructor (Sifu) status in 1990. Since then he has taught group and private classes through out Westchester County and outlying areas.

In 1997, Nelson successfully completed massage therapy training at the Swedish Institute and received his New York State License. He also attained Personal Instructor Certification.

Through years of experience with these three disciplines, Nelson has developed a successful approach to body work and exercise dynamics. His philosphy is "through balance we attain strength." Which is why he calls his technique "A Touch of Balance."

Curious about Yoga and interested in beginning a yoga practice? Want to refine and deepen an already existing practice? If so, join Lela Hughes for a 6-week Beginner Yoga Series. Over the course of these 6 weeks we will explore the basic principles of Yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breath work), mindfulness, and the strength and grace that arise from their integration. Each class will offer a balanced yoga sequence working with attention to proper alignment, learning to synchronize breath with movement, and finding our abilities to authentically express oneself through the ancient tradition of Yoga. Each week we will build upon sun salutations A and B, introducing new poses and expanding our vinyasa flow. This class is suitable for individuals who can up and down off the floor with ease.

You will get an introduction to SUP with Mike MacDonald, RYT 200, ACA Level 2 SUP, Paddle Fit Level 2, and enjoy a full yoga class with Mike MacDonald, Kaitlyn Zwagerman, RYT 500, Bob Speck, RYT 500, E-RYT 200, Nancy Wise, RYT 500 and have plenty of paddle time to explore Gayle Meadows. Asana poses are introduced gently with modifications tailored to the student's experience level and comfort zone. Practicing yoga on a SUP board encourages focus and being fully present in the moment. Doing yoga on a floating platform "requires full awareness, acceptance of Mother Nature's mood, and some humility for the occasional dip into the water!" These instructors enjoy sharing their deep appreciation of nature, and the added benefits that come from practicing yoga on calm water.

A Core Weekend of Heart of the Village Yoga's Advanced Studies and Teacher Training, this weekend will embrace multiple aspects of our curriculum including flow, yin and gentle yoga, teaching methodology, practice teaching, posture modifications and sequencing, philosophy, anatomy and physiology, meditation, breath work, nature focus, and chanting. Our programs build community by integrating Karma, Raja, Jnana and Bhakti Yoga. Heart of the Village Yoga conducts annual Teacher Training and Advanced Studies programs accredited by Yoga Alliance. Our programs are built upon a strong foundation of classical yoga postures, alignment, integrated breathing and mindfulness. Our students learn to teach Vinyasa Flow Yoga, Yin and Restorative Yoga. We integrate Bhakti Yoga – the Yoga of Loving Devotion; Karma Yoga – the Yoga of Selfless Service; and Jnana Yoga – the Yoga of Wisdom and Knowledge, into our teacher training programs.

Learn how to play the Djembe! Fun is a by-product, but first build from within the wisdom of the drum known as djembe! No experience is necessary and drums are provided.

Gary Meitrott brings an entertaining and educational introduction from his theatrical background along with his personal passion for teaching the style and technique of the djembe. As Gary says, “the drum is automatically a builder of community, but knowing how to release the power only comes from knowing how to speak its specific language, offering each drummer a responsible part in creating a drumming community, giving a further development of trust and intimacy in that circle."

Gary, student of the ethnic hand drum for over 30 years, brings an in depth knowledge of West African drum known as the djembe. Many decades ago Gary studied intensely with Babatunde Olatunji and also had further enhanced learning with YaYa DiYallo. Gary Meitrott started Drum Journeys of Earth in Rutland over twenty years ago, a school of numerous styles of hand percussion including, Cuban, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Irish, and Native American styles.

Kirtan helps us quiet the mind and experience more peace in our lives." ​

​A kirtan musician for almost 30 years, ​Shubalananda Saraswati (Larry Kopp) has been leading kirtan and singing bhajan​ internationally for almost half of his life​. ​He has led kirtan for thousands of people over the years and shared the stage with Krishna Das, Ram Dass, along with his gurus.

​Shubal, as most call him, chose the life of a sadhu living on the Dakshina (contributions) of the kirtan ​communities​ he serves​. He is a regular kirtan wallah at Kripalu Center in Lenox MA and he is out 3-4 nights a week leading kirtan at over 20 yoga centers across New England​. ​

About the Presenters:

New Orleans' Sean Johnson & The Wild Lotus Band
(Alvin Young and Gwendolyn Colman) are regarded as one of the guiding voices of kirtan music in America - a genre of spiritual music that originates in the yoga traditions of India, and is being reinvented by a growing number of western artists. Sean, Alvin and Gwendolyn put a New Orleans and American stamp on kirtan by merging ancient mantras with rock, roots, gospel, and world grooves.

Sean is also a well-loved yoga teacher who teaches at conferences and retreat centers internationally including Yoga Journal, Kripalu, Bhakti Fest, and The German Yoga Conference. He is the founder of Wild Lotus Yoga studios in New Orleans, and Soul School, an interdisciplinary yoga teacher training program that focuses on teaching yoga with both skill and imagination. He has a Master’s degree from The Naropa Institute- Oakland with focus on teaching chant as spiritual practice, and is the co-curater and co-producer of Putumayo World Music’s yoga music series. Aerial Restorative Yoga (Mellow) $20 per classFrom $12 per visit with Student Aerial Yoga 10 Class Pass (age 13 -21) passPurchase required to enroll

Aerial Restorative Yoga: This class is formatted so that at least half of the class is conducted with suspended swings near the floor so that the body is grounded while allowing the gentle stretching effect of suspended support. Swings are raised later in the class to allow focused stretching of shoulders, legs and hips, and opportunity for inversions (full- or partially- supported). Like an on-the-mat Restorative or Yin Yoga class, postures are often held for multiple minutes, often using additional props for comfort and alignment, and there is a relaxing ambiance of poetry, music, and letting go. Classes are limited to 6 students and are for ages 13 and older.

This class has similarities to a traditional on-the-mat slow flow yoga class, except swings are used to provide support and allow further exploration of traditional yoga poses. Suspended swings are used to provide support for traditional postures, most often with feet on-the-ground, as well as to provide support for inversions, full-body stretches, and relaxed lying-down positions. Classes are limited to 6 students. No Aerial Yoga Experience Necessary. Class sizes are limited to 6 participants so pre-registration is recommended.

A full-body, strength-building and body-stretching class combining yoga mindfulness principles, standing yoga postures, and aerial suspension training. Slow Flow Yoga is a lovely class integrating flow with seated and standing poses. Poses range from gentle to challenging and are practiced with stable, self-centering energy. The slow pace of this class allows for emphasis on correct alignment and maintaining balanced even breathing. This style builds strength, stability and postural integrity. Restorative poses may be introduced at the beginning and end of class. Suitable for all levels. Classes are limited for ages 13 and older.

Class incorporates sun salutations, moon salutations, standing poses, seated poses, alignment and focused breathing techniques. A range of postures are offered making this class appropriate for experienced practitioners and accessible to less experienced and beginners. Classes are limited for ages 13 and older.

Practice powerful posture sequences while focusing on alignment and mindfulness. Classes focus on heart opening poses, hip opening poses, twists, inversions and overall increased flexibility balance, strength, and compassion. This practice is especially appropriate for athletes and those wishing to increase fitness levels. Classes enhance conditioning, improve cardiovascular health, and may even reduce the likelihood of injury. Some yoga experience is recommended, as we will explore some challenging poses, however modifications will be offered for the less experienced. Room is heated to 80 degrees, so you can break a sweat. Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation that puts the practitioner into a state of consiousness between waking and sleeping. Infused with intention, both Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra are deeply restorative, grouding and healing.

Restorative Yin Yoga uses gentle long held postures practiced with an attitude of compassionate acceptance to awaken the more Yin parts of our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. Yin Yoga is grounding, healing, peaceful and leaves the practitioner feeling rested and filled with peace and love. The practitioner may opt to make the practice as restorative as they like, choosing to use props such as bolsters and blocks, adding support to one's body during each pose.

Proper fundamentals and mechanics are the keys to an efficient powerful golf swing. Stance, posture, and alignment are the basis for proper fundamentals and mechanics deal with the travel and shape of the swing. So, what does this have to do with yoga? Everything!!

Your body needs to be in balance, strong and flexible in order to have the proper fundamentals and mechanics of a good swing. What good is a proper swing when you can only have it for a few holes, then tire because of a sore back or stiff muscles or a nagging injury? Your hard work in developing a sound swing is for naught if your body rebels as you swing your club.

Yoga with it asanas or physical poses, along with pranayama or breath, can add much needed flexibility, strength and balance required for proper golf mechanics and fundamentals, and can reduce the effects of the repetitive nature of the golf swing. In this class we will learn easy, fundamental yoga poses to loosen and stretch the body to prepare it for a day on the course and afterwards, to reduce the effects of repetition and stress on the body.
