Curious about Yoga and interested in beginning a yoga practice? Want to refine and deepen an already existing practice? If so, join Lela Hughes for a 6-week Beginner Yoga Series. Over the course of these 6 weeks we will explore the basic principles of Yoga asanas (postures), pranayama (breath work), mindfulness, and the strength and grace that arise from their integration. Each class will offer a balanced yoga sequence working with attention to proper alignment, learning to synchronize breath with movement, and finding our abilities to authentically express oneself through the ancient tradition of Yoga. Each week we will build upon sun salutations A and B, introducing new poses and expanding our vinyasa flow. This class is suitable for individuals who can up and down off the floor with ease.

For us, these small Eastern get-always will be just a chance to build a sense of community while spending time together outside in nature. Here, in a supportive, non-competitive setting, we celebrate adventure, we build relationships, and we practice finding presence and balance while sliding down a mountain in ever-changing mountain conditions. We also have the opportunity to share ways to ski and ride more effectively and enjoy mountain sports more... perhaps even prepare ourselves for the annual HOTV Yoga trip in April to Snowbird, Utah!

Bob and Jo will lead you through a 15 minute yoga for skiers and riders warm-up and cool-down before and after skiing. We will meet in the ski area Base Lodge at 8:30AM. We'll practice yoga standing up or in chairs, so there is no need for you to bring a yoga mat.

We will have the option to ski together, integrating the yogic principles of mindfulness, breath control, core awareness, flexibility, strength and balance into skiing and riding. Although these get-togethers are not intended to be skiing or riding lessons, we are happy to share our insights and experiences. Bob and Jo have decades of experience teaching skiing, riding, and yoga... and many years also training other teachers in all of these! The on-hill portion of this program will generally be all-mountain skiing and riding in informal groups on intermediate and expert terrain.

We are charging a fee primarily to provide a bit of incentive for all of us to show up... and to account for organizational work, as well as leading yoga sessions and on-snow groups. We intend to donate half of fees collected before the Christmas holiday to the Manchester Food Pantry.

Lift tickets, Lodging and Meals are not included. Carpooling is a possibility.
If you have an Ikon Ski Pass, you may use that. Otherwise you must purchase a lift ticket from each Resort.

After a memorable week of skiing and yoga in Utah's Wasatch Mountains, a select group will travel from Snowbird to Escalante, Utah for Guided Canyoneering, Hiking and Yoga in this most beautiful desert- canyons landscape. Bob and Jo have made this trip several times and want to share their experience with you. We will stay at the Slot Canyons Inn, located in some of the worlds most pristine scenery. We will hike to beautiful slot canyons and waterfalls. We will spend one day on a high- adventure guided canyoneering trip, traveling a distance up to 6 miles, with an elevation gain/loss up to 1000 feet, and with rappels up to 275 feet! We will be guided by a local, well-established canyoneering service with whom Bob and Jo have canyoneered with multiple times before.

Aerial Restorative Yoga: This class is formatted so that at least half of the class is conducted with suspended swings near the floor so that the body is grounded while allowing the gentle stretching effect of suspended support. Swings are raised later in the class to allow focused stretching of shoulders, legs and hips, and opportunity for inversions (full- or partially- supported). Like an on-the-mat Restorative or Yin Yoga class, postures are often held for multiple minutes, often using additional props for comfort and alignment, and there is a relaxing ambiance of poetry, music, and letting go. Classes are limited to 6 students and are for ages 13 and older.

This class has similarities to a traditional on-the-mat slow flow yoga class, except swings are used to provide support and allow further exploration of traditional yoga poses. Suspended swings are used to provide support for traditional postures, most often with feet on-the-ground, as well as to provide support for inversions, full-body stretches, and relaxed lying-down positions. Classes are limited to 6 students. No Aerial Yoga Experience Necessary. Class sizes are limited to 6 participants so pre-registration is recommended.

Slow Flow Yoga opens and closes with restorative and yin poses, and flows through seated and standing poses in the middle of the class. Poses range from gentle to more challenging and are practiced with stable, self-centering energy. The slow pace of this class allows for emphasis on correct alignment and maintaining balanced even breathing. This style builds strength, stability and postural integrity. Suitable for all levels. Practice powerful posture sequences while focusing on alignment and mindfulness. Classes focus on heart opening poses, hip opening poses, twists, inversions and overall increased flexibility balance, strength, and compassion. This practice is especially appropriate for athletes and those wishing to increase fitness levels. Classes enhance conditioning, improve cardiovascular health, and may even reduce the likelihood of injury. Some yoga experience is recommended, as we will explore some challenging poses, however modifications will be offered for the less experienced. Room is heated to 80 degrees, so you can break a sweat. Come hydrated! Classes are limited for ages 13 and older.

Gentle Restorative Flow Yoga begins on the floor in a restorative supine position. From this restorative place, students are guided through a centering, pranayama (focused breathing practices) and a gentle warm-up. The warm-up continues as students make their way to a seated position and continue to gently warm up the spine. From there, students make their way through table pose to standing for modified Sun Salutations and a few more poses to continue to get the blood flowing through the body and wake-up the prana (lifeforce). After the standing poses, students return to the floor for restorative poses each held for 3-5 minutes. The class ends in a lovely guided relaxation.

Restorative Yin Yoga uses gentle long held postures practiced with an attitude of compassionate acceptance to awaken the more Yin parts of our physical, emotional and spiritual selves. Yin Yoga is grounding, healing, peaceful and leaves the practitioner feeling rested and filled with peace and love. The practitioner may opt to make the practice as restorative as they like, choosing to use props such as bolsters and blocks, adding support to one's body during each pose.
