Gary Meitrott brings an entertaining and educational introduction from his theatrical background along with his personal passion for teaching the style and technique of the djembe. Gary, student of the ethnic hand drum for over 30 years, brings an in depth knowledge of West African drum known as the djembe. Many decades ago Gary studied intensely with Babatunde Olatunji and also had further enhanced learning with YaYa DiYallo. Gary Meitrott started Drum Journeys of Earth in Rutland over twenty years ago, a school of numerous styles of hand percussion including, Cuban, Brazilian, Middle Eastern, Irish, and Native American styles.

Shubulananda Kirtan Free

7:30PM, September 29, 2018
$20 Suggested Donation - no one turned away.
Everyone Welcome!

Kirtan is a sacred call-and-response type of singing that is offered as a devotional practice. Let your heart shine and your voice be heard as we chant the divine names and bask in each others' light. As Shubal says, "You can't sing and think at the same time. Kirtan helps us quiet the mind and experience more peace in our lives."

A kirtan musician for almost 30 years, Shubalananda Saraswati (Larry Kopp) has been leading kirtan and singing bhajan internationally for almost half of his life. He has led kirtan for thousands of people over the years and shared the stage with Krishna Das, Ram Dass, along with his gurus.

Shubal, as most call him, chose the life of a sadhu living on the Dakshina (contributions) of the kirtan communities he serves. He is a regular kirtan wallah at Kripalu Center in Lenox MA and he is out 3-4 nights a week leading kirtan at over 20 yoga centers across New England.

Shubal and Ashley, along with Bob on bass, Greg on drums (and many other wonderful musicians) will be blistering the paint and rocking the rafters as usual.

Please join us for an inspiring and uplifting evening!!!

Through mythology, we will uncover hidden symbolisms and learn the four ways to work with them as part of a spiritual practice. Manoj will help you find your Archetype/ personal deity/Ishtadevata. Discover how knowing and working with your archetypes can profoundly shift you, especially during moments of life transitions, and how these ancient teachings have practical relevance to your life, bringing peace of mind. The training will include:

-Taoist philosophy as it applies to Yin Yoga
-The Yin practice of non-striving and how it can influence our yoga and our life
-The movement of Qi or Prana in the body, and how it can be affected by Yin practice.
